Testimonial
"Having done some research on sustainable fishing methods, visiting the Opotiki Community Reef site was incredibly interesting. It is an excellent example of what can be done to ensure that fish populations thrive in the future."

Research

Marine Life Tours runs a research program alongside its seabed enhancement project.

Completing in detail the Catch Effort Fishing Logs, even in its shorter version, is a fundamental tool that can tell us about the increasing diversity and numbers of species being caught, both inside and outside the reef area. Email us with the words 'Free Fishing Log' and we will post our pdf format fishing log for you to use.

Divers reports and underwater photos are also an important part of the research program. Although the reef lies in safe recreational dive depths, the visibility is mostly very poor toward the seabed.

If you are looking to use you dive skills to help out in ecologically projects, even in your holiday period, then in our late summer months February, March and April, the clear blue tropical waters descend on the area giving the best prospects for better visibility.

Email or phone us for more information and to make advanced dive plans.
