Land based Marine Life Tours

Marine Life Tours will appeal to anyone with an interest in fishing, marine life and/or the environment in general.

Spending time with Marine Life Tours allows you to develop a deeper understanding of marine life and strengthen your connection with it.

We are a hands on operation that helps people give back to the ocean in real ways. Wearing comfortable casual clothing is fine.

Marine Life Tours operates all year round and twice daily over the peak periods.

The Tour program (3 hours)

9.00am (or 1.00pm) start at Marine Life Tours Premises, 60 St John Str., Opotiki

After introductions we take a short orientation walk around our property to begin our story. Along the way you get to choose a few items you will need later.

The tour moves indoors to look at reef building around the World including a presentation of historical and scientific knowledge relating to reef building, or as we term it, 'seabed enhancement.'
We look at some examples of cultural environmental management practices, glimpse at the role of ethics in conservation, and then integrate these concepts into enhancing marine life.

Morning tea (or afternoon tea) provided.

After refreshments its time to get really practical, roll up the sleeves and construct some seabed enhancement modules. Its here that the seeds of your helping 'Planet Ocean' really take shape.

Just as the weather changes every day, so too can a day with Marine Life Tours vary a little according to personal preferences, seasons and tides. All safety gear, briefing and guidance provided throughout the day.

Future contact. Certification. Review and farewells.

Midday (or 4.00pm) finish.

All materials are supplied and you get to personalise the enhancement modules that you build. These are donated to Opotiki Community Reef project being constructed (with your help).

We usually have a small group but can cater for up to ten people at a time, with a minimum of 2. The program runs in most all weathers.

A third of your fee goes directly as a contribution to Opotiki Reef Project by way of -
